Almond Milk Milkshake
When it comes to homemade milkshakes, my favorite recipes to make are a chocolate milkshake, keto shakes, and this almond milk milkshake. Growing up, I was obsessed with McDonald’s thick shakes. As a treat, my parents would take my sister and me there after school and we’d both indulge in some fries and a milkshake. My sister always chose the strawberry one but I stuck with the classic vanilla. Since cleaning up my diet, McDonald’s has not been something I have been regularly consuming. On top of that, I no longer consume dairy, so even if I was being a little unhealthy, it would still be a no-go zone. Luckily, recreating my favorite treats is one of my favorite things to do, and milkshakes are no different! I’ve been meaning to share an almond milk milkshake recipe for quite some time. Many people believe that a milkshake needs to contain dairy, but that is FAR from the truth. This milkshake ticks all the boxes. No dairy and no refined sugar are needed, but you’d never tell. The texture is thick, smooth, and creamy. It’s sweet and with a hint of vanilla, with no almond flavor whatsoever! These past few days my sweet tooth has been going rampant after dinner and I’ve been making this milkshake- It satisfies the cravings without needing any dairy!
How do you make an almond milk shake?
The Ingredients
Almond milk– Either unsweetened almond milk or unsweetened vanilla almond milk. Try to use refrigerated milk, as they have a richer flavor. Maple syrup– Adds extra sweetness. Agave nectar or granulated sweeteners can also be used. Ice cream– Any vanilla ice cream can be used. I used homemade almond milk ice cream. Ice– Optional, but recommended if you prefer an extra-thick milkshake. Whipped cream- Optional, but add some dairy free whipped cream, to serve.
The Instructions
Start by adding all the ingredients, except for the ice and whipped cream into a blender. Blend until just combined. If you prefer a thicker milkshake, add some ice and blend once more. Pour the milkshake into two glasses, top with whipped cream, and serve immediately.
Flavor Variations
While this vanilla milkshake tastes delicious on its own, here are some flavor options to also try out!
Banana– Omit the ice and add a chopped frozen banana to it. Chocolate– Add 3 tablespoons of cocoa powder and use unsweetened chocolate almond milk. Cacao– Add 2 tablespoons of raw cacao powder. Strawberry– Use strawberry almond milk and replace the ice with 1/2 cup of frozen strawberries. Oreo– Add 2-3 Oreos or homemade Oreo cookies to the blender.
Storing and freezing milkshakes
To store: Milkshakes are best enjoyed fresh, but you can store them in the refrigerator for up to 2 days once it has been made. Whisk it well before enjoying. To freeze: Place the milkshake in a shallow container or ice cube tray and store in the freezer for up to 2 months. When ready to enjoy, simply add the frozen milkshake into a blender and blend until thick and creamy.
