I think one of the most appealing aspects of making momos is their super cute design pattern. I totally admire the aesthetic appeal of these veg momos, and the intricate design that makes them so pretty. If you’re ready to practice your folding skills, I’m here with yet another momos recipe – chicken momos. If you’re not familiar with momos, these are South Asian version of dumplings, and is a very popular Indian street food. There are so many versions of these momos – veg, paneer, chicken and so on. In fact, momos or dumpling wrapper is your perfect blank canvas ready to be filled with your creativity. But, today, we’ll just focus on the classic version of chicken momos. And we’re going to make it from scratch. Having said that, if you have leftover cooked chicken, just shred, and add it to the filling. Ok, let me walk you through the step by step process of making these chicken momos starting from making the filling to the intricate folding technique. First, the filling. This is the easiest part of the recipe. A simple combo of minced or ground chicken, ginger, garlic, soy sauce, herbs and black pepper. However, if you don’t want to use minced chicken, grind chopped thigh fillets in your food processor. Easy! Second, the dumpling wrappers. Do you remember the veg momos I made a few weeks ago? I used store bought wonton wrappers to create those beautiful dumplings. But this time, I’m going to make these chicken momos with store bought dumpling wrappers. If they are not easily available in your local grocery store, a quick trip to the Asian grocery store will be necessary. Now, the fun bit. Folding the wrappers. In this recipe, I’ll show you two cute ways two wrap your dumplings. Both look like round baskets – open and closed. You can also try the crescent moon shape of the veg momos. There are no wrongs. I love them all. I think a mix of different momos designs will also look amazing. Ready to munch on these “designer” chicken momos?
