The very basic cookies are turned into a showstopper with a simple magic. Hard candies or lollies are melted to create a beautiful glass feature to resemble the Christmas lights. Let me tell you, these cookies are so good. Gorgeous! How To Make Christmas Tree Cookies Start with the cookie dough. I use a mix of all purpose (plain) and self raising flours in this recipe. Sift the flours into a bowl alongside salt. Give it a quick whisk to mix the flours. In another bowl, beat together softened butter and sugar. This will take about 3-4 minutes. Once the mixture is pale and creamy, add in egg and vanilla extract. At this stage, you can add the almond extract if you are using. Beat all the ingredients until well combined. Now add in half of the sifted flour and mix with a spoon. Add in remaining flour and mix again. Knead it to make a smooth dough.
