Love ACTUALLY tasty protein shakes? Try my chocolate protein shake, peanut butter protein shake, cinnamon roll protein shake, and Snickers protein shake next. Coffee and protein are two non-negotiables in my morning routine. When I can pair the two together, that’s even better. With the buzzing benefits of caffeine and the satiating effects of protein powder (and inspired by my protein coffee!), my coffee protein shake has become a weekly staple in my house–and you’ll see why!
Why I love this recipe
The best of both worlds. It basically tastes like a coffee vanilla milkshake, but it’s made with wholesome ingredients. Packed with protein. One scoop of protein powder gives this shake over 20 grams of protein, making it the perfect pre or post-workout treat. Ready in seconds. Throw everything in your blender and blend until smooth. It doesn’t get easier! Cheaper (and tastier) than store-bought. I recently broke up with store-bought protein shakes in favor of making them at home. Not only is it cheaper, but the flavor is far superior.
Ingredients needed
Banana. Preferably a frozen banana so it keeps the shake cold and creamy. Milk. I used unsweetened almond milk, but any dairy or non-dairy milk works. Protein powder. I used bourbon vanilla protein powder, but of course, use whatever protein powder you enjoy the flavor of. Chia seeds. For added protein, fiber, and healthy omega-3 fatty acids. Cold brewed coffee. Skip the store-bought stuff and use my homemade cold brew concentrate. You can also use chilled instant coffee. Don’t want the caffeine but want the flavor? Use decaffeinated coffee. Ice. To blend and give the shake a creamy texture but with none of the calories. Sweetener. Optional, depending on how flavorful your protein powder is. I ended up adding a little maple syrup, but you could use honey, agave, or sugar-free maple syrup.

Arman’s recipe tips
Skip the ice cubes. If you have coffee ice cubes on hand, use these instead of regular ice cubes to prevent the shake from diluting. Adjust the consistency. Add more milk until your desired texture is achieved. Taste as you go. One of the beauties of this recipe is that you can add whatever flavors you want, so give it a taste and add extra flavor as needed.

Make it chocolatey. Use chocolate protein powder and chocolate milk. Add a boost of coffee flavor. Add one teaspoon of instant coffee, or swap some milk for a shot of espresso. Add some healthy fats. I find pairing protein with healthy fats makes me even more satisfied. Almond butter, frozen avocado, or Greek yogurt are great options.
