Winter, rain, snow, chocolate, marshmallows. Is this the perfect recipe for hot chocolate? Oh yes. Although it doesn’t snow where I live, a warm cup of decadent hot chocolate is my best buddy all winter long. Absolute heaven! And with the kind of freezing temperatures we’re experiencing right now, this is a must addition to my daily routine. I mean, this is the ultimate comfort food (drink, to be exact) for me. While I was enjoying a comforting cup of this hot chocolate a couple of days ago, all on a sudden, I realized that I haven’t added this wonderful recipe to the blog yet. This chocolate drink is a classic, but you know, who could say no to a heavenly cup of hot cocoa. So, here you go, my ultimate favorite homemade hot chocolate recipe for warming up your cold nights. When it’s super cold outside, I always make sure to stock up my pantry with good quality cocoa powder, chocolate chips and of course, marshmallows. And the very basic ingredient, milk, is a staple in every home, right? I’m way too excited about this hot chocolate. Just look at that chocolatey drink with the fluffy cloud-like marshmallows on top. Isn’t that drool-worthy? So, let’s just think about this warm, chocolatey and super yum hot chocolate for the moment? To begin with, stir in cocoa powder to boiling water. Don’t forget to stir continuously because you don’t want any lumps in the drink at all. Even the tiniest lump will ruin the whole effort. Remember we’re looking for a very smooth and flowing consistency. I used my favorite dark cocoa powder in this recipe. It gives a very rich chocolatey kick to the drink. If you’re not a fan of dark chocolate, go with the regular one. After you’ve made the smooth cocoa mixture, add in the milk and chocolate. You can use either milk or dark chocolate here, but make sure you choose a good quality brand. The quality of the chocolate is so important it’s going to determine the richness and flavor of the hot chocolate. I didn’t add any extra sweetener or sugar to the drink. The chocolate itself sweetens the whole drink. Lastly, the marshmallow foam. A few weeks ago, I saw Matt Preston (Masterchef Australia judge) whipping up an incredible soft and fluffy marshmallow foam on Instagram. This fluffy, cloud-like foam is pure magic and is definitely a must-try. All-in-all, this is the best homemade hot chocolate recipe ever.
