Video: How to cut a bell pepper

Are you wondering how to cut a bell pepper but not sure the best way? Alex and I use a genius method for cutting bell peppers that doesn’t end up with seeds all over the counter! (Anyone have that issue?) We use this method all the time, like when we make our grilled veggie fajitas or best teriyaki veggie stir fry. Here’s our step by step guide for how to cut a bell pepper, including a video of me cutting bell peppers in our kitchen.

How to cut a bell pepper step by step

Step 1

Using a large chef’s knife, slice straight down on each side to form 4 straight pieces of the pepper. This keeps the seeds and ribs intact in the center.

Step 2

Slice off the bottom and top of the pepper, and pull out the stem.

Step 3

Place the skin side of the pepper down, and cut it into thin slices. (If you’re planning to dice the pepper, make larger slices.)

Step 4

If you’re dicing the pepper, turn the slices and cut them crosswise to make squares.

And there you have it: how to cut a bell pepper in 4 easy steps!

Best chef knife & cutting boards

Alex and I are often asked about the best kitchen tools. And every time we answer, “A good sharp chef’s knife!” A good knife can drastically improve your time in the kitchen, and lasts for years (we’ve had our chef knives for 10 plus years). Here are some of the knives we recommend, as well as cutting boards and the best knife sharpener. These recommendations are perfect for outfitting your own kitchen, or great gifts for a wedding registry or someone who loves to cook! Video: Knife Skills, Gear, & How to Hold a Knife!
