Are you wondering the best way to cut a mango? There are lots of ways to do it, but Alex and I have a great method for how to dice a mango into perfect chunks. We use this method all the time, like when we make our mango salsa or our mango black bean chili. Learning this method changed the game for us, and we hope it will for you too! Here’s our step by step guide for how to cut a mango, including a video of me cutting a mango in our kitchen.
How to cut a mango step by step
Step 1
Stand the mango on its side, with the stem facing away from you.
Step 2
Using a large chef’s knife, cut around the pit on one side. Start about 1/4″ from the center, following the curve of the pit.
Step 3
Repeat the same cut on the other side of the pit.
Step 4
Use a paring knife to score the mango into squares, without cutting through the peel.
Step 5
Use a large spoon to scoop between the fruit and the peel to remove the diced mango.
And there you have it: how to cut a mango in 5 easy steps!

And every time we answer, “A good sharp chef’s knife!” A good knife can drastically improve your time in the kitchen, and lasts for years (we’ve had our chef knives for 10 plus years). Here are some of the knives we recommend, as well as cutting boards and the best knife sharpener. These recommendations are perfect for outfitting your own kitchen, or great gifts for a wedding registry or someone who loves to cook! Video: Knife Skills, Gear, & How to Hold a Knife!
