Mithai is the general term used for Indian sweets, and they are loaded with classic flavors of subtle spices, nuts and melt-in-your-mouth sweetness. There are umpteen varieties of mithais from all over India, each customized to regional specialties and local ingredients. Honestly, I am obsessed with mithais and it’s impossible to pick a favorite. So, I decided to combine the sweetness of mithais with one of my most favorite sweet treats, truffles. It’s all about bringing together complex flavors with symphonic balance. Mithai truffles – the sweet combo of Indian sweet and truffles. Trust me, it’s totally addicting. The simple sweet is covered in silky melted chocolate to create gorgeous truffles. I topped them with crushed dried rose petals to accentuate the gorgeousness of these bite-sized treats.
How To Make Mithai Truffles
These truffles are inspired by the classic Indian sweet, peda or milk fudge. Made with a basic combination of milk powder and condensed milk, it’s one of the easiest Indian sweet you could ever make. Making these truffles is super easy. Start with making the milk fudge. Stir together condensed milk and milk powder over low heat. When the mixture comes together, you can add a little ground cardamom and ghee, the two essential ingredients of Indian mithais. Continue stirring so the mixture will form a thick dough. The consistency of the mixture is key in this mithai truffles recipe as you will need to roll out the balls. Once the mixture cools down slightly, roll out small balls. Dip these balls in melted dark or milk chocolate and refrigerate until the chocolate is set. That way, you have gorgeous milk fudge rolls encased in beautifully silky chocolate. Heavenly! Now, the decorating part of these truffles. Decorate them before the chocolate is set. I love the gorgeous reds of dried rose petals on the chocolate, but you can also decorate them with desiccated coconut, crushed candies, chopped nuts etc. Melt-in-your-mouth mithai truffles perfect for any special occasion!
