What’s in this peach bourbon cocktail?

Peaches and bourbon are an ideal flavor match, but using juice from fresh peaches doesn’t quite hold up to the strength of the bourbon. Luckily we had peach schnapps on hand from making a Fuzzy Navel, and needed something to do with it. Mix it up with bourbon and a little juice, and pow! The intense peach flavor is offset with the vanilla and oaky notes of the bourbon. Here’s what you’ll need to mix up this drink:

Bourbon of any kindPeach schnappsOrange juice (or fresh ripe peach slices; see below)

More about peach schnapps

Peach schnapps wasn’t part of our liquor collection until we made the Fuzzy Navel. Turns out, it’s great for adding a strong peach flavor to drinks. Here’s more about what it is:

Peach schnapps is a type of schnapps made by adding peach flavoring to a clear grain spirit. It was introduced in 1984 by DeKuyper, and quickly became the top selling schnapps in America. What does peach schnapps taste like? The flavor is intensely fruity and peachy. A little goes a long way! What other drinks use peach schnapps? Try peach schnapps cocktails like a Fuzzy Navel, Georgia Peach, or Peach Martini. Or use it to add even more juicy flavor in peach cocktails like a Bellini or Peach Margarita.

Accessorize with orange juice (or ripe peaches!)

You only need 3 ingredients for this Peach Bourbon Cocktail! Once you’ve got your bourbon (of any kind) and peach schnapps, the other ingredient is…wait for it…orange juice! Yes, there’s no need to buy peach nectar, which is the main way to bring peach flavor into cocktails. A little orange juice brings that peach color without any orange flavor: and it’s much easier to find than peach nectar. A few notes:

Fresh squeezed orange juice is best. Or you can use store-bought juice: look for no sugar added orange juice.Got ripe peaches on hand? You can use those too. Happen to have ripe peaches on hand? That’s ok too! You can substitute them for the orange juice. Just use 5 or 6 slices of fresh peaches and muddle them in a cocktail shaker. Add the bourbon and peach schnapps, then strain into a glass.
