Ingredients in a raspberry margarita

The margarita is one of the most popular classic cocktails of all time. The classic version was invented in Mexico in the 1930’s, and it’s just 3 ingredients: tequila, triple sec and lime juice. For a raspberry margarita, our spin adds fresh raspberries into the mix and blends it up. Here are the ingredients you’ll need for a raspberry margarita:

Tequila Triple Sec (or Cointreau) Lime juice Raspberries (fresh or frozen) Simple syrup Ice

Use fresh or frozen raspberries

The best raspberries for a raspberry margarita, in our opinion? Fresh berries! We love the delicate sweet flavor you can get from fresh berries. That said, if all you have is frozen, you can use those too! Here’s what to know:

Fresh raspberries: These make a delightfully sweet drink! The texture comes out creamy but not frozen. Frozen raspberries: These work too: follow the recipe as written. This option might be cheaper if you make an entire pitcher (see below). Just keep blending until the mixture is liquid: it’s not intended to be a frozen raspberry margarita with a texture like a slushy (unless you’d like it to be, of course).

Mixing up drinks for a crowd? You can easily make a raspberry margarita pitcher: just multiply this recipe times 4! Because the math can get a little interesting with ounces and cups, we did the math for you. Place the following in a blender:

1 ½ cups tequila 1 ½ cups triple sec 1 cup lime juice ½ cup simple syrup 4 cups raspberries

Best tequila and triple sec for a raspberry margarita

Of course, you can use whatever you have on hand for tequila and triple sec: especially for a raspberry margarita! The raspberry flavor helps to balance out any range of these two liquors. But if you’re interested in the best match for the berries, here’s our opinion on types of tequila:

Best tequila: Opt for a tequila blanco here! The more straightforward flavor balances the berries, versus a tequila reposado that’s aged and oaky. Bonus points for a mid-price range quality, like Patron. Best triple sec: Either Triple Sec or Cointreau work (because Cointreau is a triple sec, if that makes sense!). Here we like Triple Sec because of its crisp, clear orange flavor: but honestly both are fantastic.
