Yes, grenadine is the secret to the beautiful layers in this vodka and pineapple juice cocktail! Here’s the secret: grenadine is denser than the rest of the cocktail. So all you have to do is pour a bit down the edge of the glass. It settles to the bottom and makes a ruby red layer at the base of the glass. Grenadine is a sweet tart syrup used in cocktails that’s bright red in color. It’s made out of pomegranate juice! (The name comes from the French word for pomegranate, grenade.) How to make a vodka and pineapple juice cocktail
This vodka and pineapple juice cocktail is beyond easy to make! As a slightly lazy mixologist, I personally love cocktails that are mixed in the serving glass. There’s no need to dirty a cocktail shaker for this one. Simply mix it up in the glass, garnish and serve. Here’s what to know:
Grab a lowball glass and fill it with ice. Because this cocktail is free form, you could also use a stemmed cocktail glass. You choose! Add the vodka, pineapple juice and lime juice. Give it a stir to chill them. Hold the glass at an angle and pour in a splash of grenadine. Watch as the grenadine settles to the bottom. (Science in action!) Garnish and serve. We used the leaves of a fresh pineapple for a showy presentation. Another option is a few wedges of fresh pineapple.
