There are quite a few reasons to love chaats, the most popular Indian street food. One, the amazing combination of flavors and textures that make them so unique. Two, the fact that they aren’t just delicious but are also pretty to look at. Oh, and the sheer joy of celebrating a flavor party in your mouth is indescribable. No wonder this samosa chaat is one of my favorites, and I must say, it’s totally addicting. An amazing lineup of crunchy and soft textures, and spicy, sweet and tangy flavors make this a popular choice. So, what’s the secret? The ingredients… of course. Let’s find out the unique combo of ingredients that make this chaat amazingly delicious. Chana masala or chickpea masala – One of the most popular vegetarian curries in Indian cuisine. Chickpeas simmered in luscious spicy sauce. The key here is to make the sauce really thick ready to absorb the flavors of the other toppings of this samosa chaat. Samosa – It’s the core element of this chaat adding the crispy texture from the outer covering of the samosas. For the filling of the samosa, I decided to go the traditional way and make potato samosas. And again, you can either fry or bake them, but I think frying is the best option here. Chutneys – The absolute “must” ingredient of all your favorite chaats, and the key ingredients in balancing the basic sweet, tangy and spicy flavors. Feel free to add more or less to create the perfect samosa chaat to your liking. Onions and tomatoes – I love the refreshing touch they add to all chaats. Moreover, they make your favorite chaat bright and colorful. The purple hues of red onions and the bright red color of tomatoes increase the aesthetic appeal of these much loved street food. The final touch of coriander (cilantro) leaves, chaat masala, yogurt and bright pomegranate arils complete the picture. Pomegranate arils are totally optional in this recipe, but I really love it’s bright red color and the slight sweetness adds a beautiful contrast to the spicy chaat. Once all the elements are ready, layer them in a plate to make the best samosa chaat ever.
