Many store-bought crackers can taste stale or like they’re full of additives and preservatives—so why not make your own homemade version? Alex and I have been making these for years as an appetizer when we’re entertaining, and finally decided we should write down the recipe. Here’s how to do it and our favorite ways to serve them. Since you’ll be toasting the bread to a crisp, the quality is not as important as if you were using it un-toasted. You can also whip a homemade baguette recipe (toast it for next-day leftovers). But any store-bought baguette will do the trick!
Preheat the oven to 350°F. Slice the baguette on the bias. Place the slices on a baking sheet in a single layer (no oil or parchment paper needed!). Bake for about 10 minutes, until golden and crisp. timing will depend on the age of the baguette and thickness of the slices.
Cheese plate. Make a cheese board or antipasto platter with all your favorite cheeses, olives, and grapes and go to town! Spinach dip. Try our family favorite spinach artichoke dip, spinach dip, or vegan spinach artichoke dip. Whipped feta. Serve with creamy whipped feta dip or whipped ricotta. Hummus. Try classic hummus, black bean hummus, beet hummus, or loaded hummus dip. Onion dip. Mix up French onion dip. Crostini or bruschetta. Top them up like goat cheese crostini or bruschetta. Green pea dip. This bright green pea dip is a big fan favorite. Tomato dip. This tomato dip is famous in our circles. Baked brie. Crostini are the perfect pairing with a simple appetizer of baked brie.
